Dear valued livestock constituents,
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Doug White and on December 20, 2018, I was named interim president and general manager of the Arkansas State Livestock Association and fairgrounds. I replaced the retiring Ralph Shoptaw, who was GM for over 13 years.
I am humbled and honored to lead this organization. I am extremely proud of our rich history and tradition and the fact that we have positively impacted so many lives of Arkansans.
While we have events year-round on our property, our team is focused on our biggest event, the 80th annual State Fair of Arkansas. Part of that focus includes the livestock portion of our state fair. I am sensitive to all our exhibitors, but especially our junior livestock exhibitors and the scholarship program. We want to make their experience at the Arkansas State Fair a positive and memorable one.
Please know that we are looking at all aspects of our fair experience with fresh eyes (and ears). We know that improvement is necessary. I want to involve all our constituencies as the plan develops, realizing that we are already under deadline. Your ALSA board of directors is engaged on this issue as well.
There are a lot rumors out there regarding the Fair. I want to assure you that many of them are simply not true. For instance, we will definitely have poultry and rabbit shows at this year's Fair! Again, I will address these issues in the coming days.
I ask for your patience as this effort proceeds. In turn, I will keep the lines of communication open. Stay tuned for more updates. I leave you with one of my favorite quotes.
