Rain Slows Arkansas State Fair’s Attendance Trend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LITTLE ROCK (Oct. 16, 2019) – The Arkansas State Fair was on a roll with four straight days of big crowds, but fair officials said the intermittent rain that fell on the fairgrounds Tuesday slowed the attendance trend.

Tuesday’s attendance of 25,244 was considerably smaller than the previous day’s crowd, but much better than last year’s Tuesday attendance when only 13,346 showed up on a rainy day.

Through five days at the 80th Arkansas State Fair, 229,903 patrons have turned out for the fun and games. That number is well ahead of the 133,155 who came to the fair at this same juncture in 2018 when rain held crowds down.

General Manager Doug White said Tuesday rain hindered the fair’s attendance.

“We were bound to get some rain during our ten-day run,” White stated. “I guess if you have to have a day of rain, Tuesday is not a bad day to get it. Our big days for attendance are always Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those are the days we want to avoid pour weather.”

The general manager believes the coming days should get the fair back on track for increased attendance. “We’ve got sunshine today and the forecast looks really nice at least through Saturday,” the manager said.

The Arkansas State Fair, the state’s largest event, continues through Sunday, October 20.
