Arkansas State Fair Welcomes Fall Temperatures and Patrons on Opening Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LITTLE ROCK (Oct. 12, 2019) – The 80th Arkansas State Fair officially opened at 11:00 a.m. Friday to a cold front that brought chilly temperatures and a crowd of patrons to the Little Rock event.

A first-day attendance of 27,655 showed up at the fairgrounds for opening day fun and an evening rock concert.

General Manager Doug White said the Friday attendance was down approximately four percent from last year’s first Friday. The figure can’t be fairly compared to last year’s opening day because the fair opened on a Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

“We had concerns early in the day about the possibility of rain,” said White, “but the weather really wasn’t much of a factor. Certainly, the falling temperatures may have deterred some patrons, but overall we were pleased with the turnout.”

The fair’s opening concert Friday night featured rock icon Rick Springfield. The show was well attended, according to White.

“We had a tremendous crowd for the concert,” White stated. “Everyone had a great time and it’s obvious there are a lot of Rick Springfield fans in Arkansas.”

White was optimistic about the weekend attendance based on the beautiful fall weather.

“The forecast through the weekend looks phenomenal. We could very well set some attendance records Saturday and Sunday.”

The all-time opening day attendance was 57,074, set in 2008.

The Arkansas State Fair, the state’s largest event, continues through Sunday, October 20.
