Mammoth pumpkin dominates State Fair competition


Little Rock, AR – The annual giant pumpkin and watermelon growing contest at the 80th Arkansas State Fair was decided resoundingly today as Buster Passmore,10, of Green County 4H took top honors with a pumpkin that weighed in at 491.5 pounds.

Little Rock, AR – The annual giant pumpkin and watermelon growing contest at the 80th Arkansas State Fair was decided resoundingly today as Buster Passmore,10, of Green County 4H took top honors with a pumpkin that weighed in at 491.5 pounds.

The giant gourd, which arrived strapped to a wooden pallet, is believed to be the largest produced in 4H competition in Arkansas, according to Priscilla Thomas-Scott, events coordinator with the state 4H office.

The Arkansas State Fair continues through Oct. 20 at the State Fairgrounds in Little Rock.
